In a world...where Mexican food is doled out with all the thought and care of a food service order form, this place does a decent job of providing a few stand out items. First, the chips and salsa starter is a good option. While the tri-color tortilla chips are forgettable, the tangy salsa is chunky with large tomatoes, onions, peppers and plenty of garlic. The Baja fish tacos are a great choice. It's served with one large flaky whitefish filet, blackened, with a crispy surface and placed across three corn tortillas with cabbage, aforementioned chunky salsa, and a light cream sauce. Break up the filet into large or small portions for your taco, or go carb-conscious and try the filet and fixings on their own. Either way it's a delicious dish. For late night cravings at nearby hotels, walk in and take out a box of 12 tacos to the room to keep the party going. You have your choice of fine ground beef, chicken, pork and a few others. While more expensive than a "run for the border", it's about the only and best late night selection.

Similar to what others have said and I wish now that I had checked the reviews first. It was not "bad" but nothing was good either. Had the chimichanga with chicken breast and rice with black beans. It tasted like what you would expect from a cheap frozen meal. Nothing was very flavorful and the ingredients were cheap and bland. The chimichanga had just a plain, thin, pre-shredded cheese that was disappointing. The title was disappointing as we were hoping for Tex Mex...this is very far from Tex Mex.

This place needs a manager instead of 2 teenagers working the hostess station!! We were looking at 6 empty tables and observed 4 families leave because they would not seat anyone because "they didn't want to overwhelm the kitchen"!!! Enough said!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jonathan S.

So I agree with other reviews that the service was spotty. I heard others and table complaining. I sat at the bar and it was actually relatively quick. Had the buffalo chicken salad and it was really good. I will also add that the chips and salsa were by far the best I have every had. 4 stars as the place seemed dirty and the bathroom was disgusting.

We got there and ordered chips and salsa, which came after about a minute, along with waters and the drinks we ordered! The enchiladas were amazing, if you are half or whole American, as a lot of the items are COVERED in melted cheese. Though, this is quite what I like and I believe you will too. My dad got the Baja fish tacos and, despite all the other unhealthy options, he very much enjoyed them, and found them nutritional AND delicious. The service was great, other than a 10 minute wait or so for the check, but the experience was awesome. To all the other haters out there, suck it.

  • Rachel W.

Not a lot of mexican options here in Marco, but we were craving tacos. It wasn't very authentic in taste, but the fish was fresh and cooked well, and the salsa fresh. Good to meet your mexican taste bud needs. Good basic fare for kiddos.

Generally a poor and disappointing experience - not enough "buzzers" while waiting so a constant check was required on the status of our table and we were given pretty inaccurate wait times. After being seated and placing our orders, our dinner was served and we were not given our appetizers. Our waitress followed up for the first time after we were done with eating. We took 1 of 3 appetizers ordered to go but we're not given so much as a discount or an apology for the service. This doesn't even take into account that we waited over 30 minutes for food to come. Understand that it was a busy evening, but some customer service would have been nice. Food was ok, but nothing to wow over.

Ahi tacos and cheese enchiladas are divine. Margaritas on point. Relatively inexpensive. Would return.

    (5)
  • J S.

VERY VERY VERY BASIC. Friendly waiter who looked like he might be puffing a little something funny in the back room, if you catch my drift. Probably one step above Taco Bell...but Taco Bell does it better, still. Nice enough staff. Dumpy interior. Very limited options in Marco Island and this adds to the list. Probably wouldn't do it again.

    (2)
  • Justin B.

The silver margarita was home made and good. We had the fajita combo and the food was good, but the service sub par.

This will be our last visit to nacho mamas. What used to be a really good Mexican restaurant close to our condominium is no longer. Food was mediocre at best, canned refried beans, premade rice. Enchilada and burrito were small and not very tasty. Drinks were not very strong. We went with five adults and two children. Our waitress was beyond bad. Inattentive, rude, young and could care less. We had two $100 visa debit gift cards. She had no idea how to enter them to pay for the bill, how embarrassing for us. Both gift cards were declined, yet they were both later confirmed to be fine. She just tried to put the entire bill on each gift card, causing them to be declined because the total bill was way more than each individual gift card. D'uh! Sorry to say we have been coming here for many many years and we will not be back.

This place is yuuuuuuuuuuummers! I had Mama's Stacker and the hubby had the Ahi Tuna tacos. We were both very satisfied with the meal, and the prices were reasonable. The service was also great and very friendly.

    (4)
  • Christy Z.

Terrible. Awful. Would never return. There was not one positive thing I could say about the food. Had to purchase chips and "salsa" which was nothing more than pico de gallo. Cheese dip was comparable to the processed cheese you would purchase at a carnival or movie theater. From a culinary standpoint it is a total disgrace.

    (1)
  • Arabella R.

Unbelievably rude staff & management! Food was mediocre, was told hot salsa was from jar, manager didn't want to wipe off table outside because it was going to rain...... Never again.

    (1)
  • Christine W.

We ordered chips and salsa and a queso cheese. All were bad. I loaded salt, pepper, stale cholula, and stale Tabasco.. None of this made anything have any flavor. After this we decided to go next door for dinner. Probably the worst Mexican we have experienced. Well, it's between this and a town of 1,000 people in Minnesota.

This is my family's go-to place for cheap tacos and drinks during happy hour. $1.25 tacos during happy hour have a generous helping of meat inside. The hard corn tacos are gluten free, and they have limited soft corn tacos for those with Celiac or allergies. The tomatoes are consistently very fresh. Frozen margaritas and beers are reasonably priced, and the outdoor seating is nice. Service is hit or miss. I've had great service here (an older gentleman recognized we'd been coming back for years) and not-so-stellar service. Can't beat the location and cheap tacos, though I wouldn't think their pricier items are worth it. In an area where it's hard to et a cheap gluten free meal, this is certainly a good option.

  • Brian O.

Man oh man - reading some of those negative reviews made me feel bad for those folks...but I've always had a good time here. The food is Tex-Mex, and even then it's barely "Mexican" (if you will) but satisfies the need. It seems to be a popular suggestion and is in a great location, but if you want to visit this place and not have a bad time 1. Don't go on a weekend for dinner. Go for lunch...for a late lunch, for happy hour. 2. If it's insanely busy, just go somewhere else. The food is fine (the nachos are gigantic, and while they might not be "authentic" you certainly get a value). We had great service during our visit (really, look at all the reviews: tourists the whole bunch of us) so a local's spot this is not, yet when the locals I met spoke of how they enjoyed it, even THEY must think it's worth it. And I think it is, too...just know what and when to do it, and you'll return.

I let my 13 year old son and his friend go out to luch and they went there. The food overall was no where NEAR the $62 they charged them. After my son brought me back the check I found out he got charged for 4 burritos even though they only got 3. They charged my sons friend $12 for one slice of avocado when he asked for a side of guacamole. The worst part is that they added an automatic %18 tip that was not told to them. The waiter ripped off my child by over charging $21. Shows how much class the restaurant has, that they take advantage of two 13 yeat old boys! Never go here one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to.

    (1)
  • Julie S.

When we arrived we were told there would be a 45 minute wait. However, there were at least 4 tables open with no one sitting there. When we finally got seated, which was about an hour later - we did not have great service. Not sure what was going on but no one seemed to be moving as if they cared. While eating, we noticed there were several tables not getting cleared off for at least 20 minutes while there were people waiting to be seated. Would not recommend this establishment as the service was poor.

    (1)
  • Jaymee N.

Our family had a horrible experience at this restaurant. The hostess and waitstaff were incredibly rude and the food was just plain bad. For great Mexican food on Marco go to the Kwik Stop in Collier!

    (1)
  • Colleen D.

The name threw me off / turned me off...BUT we were looking for a lunch place on our 2nd to last day - walked over and really liked the outdoor and the host was so inviting. Glad we tried it. Food so good. Margarita very good. Service amazing. Loved the outdoor seating.

    (4)
  • Jon F.

Good food. The Baja fish tacos were awesome! They came with a large piece of fresh grouper deep fried and 3 soft tortillas. Affordable place to eat and drink and they are open after the other restaurants close.

    (4)
  • Beth F.

Service was spot on and the fish tacos were wonderful. Will be back before the week is over for another taco.

    (4)
  • Jacquie H.

Food was average to good, but service wasn't good. Our waitress was snippy and not customer oriented. Automatic 18% tip was added, which further frustrated us. I wouldn't recommend this place.

  • Tara J.

My husband and I went to Nacho Mama's for happy hour and went back for dinner against our better judgement (the bartender even recommended we try somewhere else for food). We should have gone with the previous reviews on this place. Happy hour was great - margaritas were made well and prices are reasonable. The chips and salsa that are raved about on here are so-so - very garlicky (and I love garlic). My husband got beef tacos. I asked if they could put the fajita burrito in a bowl and the waitress laughed at me and then talked down to me like I was stupid. So I decided to order the chicken tortilla soup and a beef taco al a carte. The taco was about the equivalent of a Taco Bell taco (my husband and I said the same thing to each other - we both felt the same way). The soup was awful. Tasted like puréed tomatoes mixed with chili powder. I think they need to rethink some of the recipes on their menu. Maybe we just came on an off night, but I am really upset that we wasted one of our dining experiences in Marco Island on this place. I wouldn't recommend.

    (1)
  • Andrew B.

Zero stars is more appropriate, host seemed annoyed we had our 8 month old son with us, never brought the high chair we asked for and after waiting 10-15 minutes for someone to acknowledge us, We got up and walked out, staff was oblivious and host who sat us told us to have a good night as we walked out, not even realizing we never got served. I explained to her why we were leaving and she just gave me a blank stare, moron!

    (1)
  • Mandy C.

Just had the shrimp and scallop fajitas. Excellent. Clean, nice atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating. Nice bar. After reading the Yelp reviews on this place we were skeptical. Much better than we anticipated. We eat a lot of Mexican food and this place is good.

    (5)
  • Jeffrey C.

This was a recommended place for us. We went for lunch and got pretty typical dishes. Neither meal was all that great. Drinks were pretty good. Very surprised they didn't bring complimentary chips and salsa. Bummer!

    (2)
  • David J.

Seriously folks--- awful attitudes from servers/ hostess and worst of all the gray haired balding manager on Sunday night at 722 pm. He was so rude to many tables. Can't believe this place actually stays in business. I would argue its within the top five worst dining experiences since i moved to Collier County in 1995.

    (1)
  • M M.

Yuck!!! We had lunch here last week. Went in with low expectations and unfortunately they were met. Our server was very friendly, that was about the only positive. Food was totally unimpressive. I had a combo taco plate. Everything about the tacos sucked. The tortillas were flour (and barely warm), strike one. The fillings seemed like they were made days earlier and just been scooped out of a warmer that wasn't warm enough. Same with rice (dry and waxy) and beans. I was kind of worried I might end up ill in a few hours, as the temps didn't seem safe but luckily no issues. We won't return to Nacho Mama's.

    (1)
  • Nick R.

Went in for dinner with a group of 7. We called ahead about an hour early to make sure they could attempt to be ready. They stuck us at a table that was too small for the group. The food was mediocre, but the service was good. I think this place would be better for just going to get a couple beers.

    (2)
  • Carrie P.

So disappointed that the little dive bar we discovered 8 years ago has grown into a huge restaurant with an ego to match. The tortilla chips were tri-colored which means the 10 year old couldn't eat them because of her dye allergy. Who even serves tri-colored chips anymore for this very reason? When we explained that she's allergic to red dye and asked for plain soft tortillas they charged us .25 each for them. At least the recipe for pico was the same. We ate here once a day the last time we visited the island. Unfortunately this hole in the wall has lost it's charm and this time we only visited once the entire 10 days we were here.

  • Alexander S.

Happy hour tacos are highly recommended. For $1.25 can't beat it however I don't recommend their other food.

    (4)
  • Ryan K.

Its Mexican, so don't expect gourmet. I thought the food was good (for Mexican) although not very close to the best I've had, and the prices are about right. We ordered takeout so I can't comment on the service, except that the person I picked up from gladly helped me carry the food out to the car without even having to ask.

    (3)
  • Kelly B.

Great happy hour specials, fantastic service! Food is delicious! Definitely recommend this place!

    (5)
  • Robert M.

good value for Happy Hour. $1.25 tacos are not bad.

  • Kellie L.

Absolutely a MUST STOP at Marco Island! Come for Happy Hour.... Drafts are like a buck and a quarter!!!!! And the food.... Don't get me started.... Absolutely must have the fish tacos..... Look at this amazing dish! Don't miss the fun!

I should give this place just to balance the bad reviews and raise the average, but let me be fair and give it the four stars it deserves. Jewels waitered our table - professional, friendly and attentive. Food is good no complaints at all. What so ever. They have many dishes to choose from. Be the tourist you ate and start with a Corona-rita - margarita drink with an upsidedown mini-Coronabottle. Huge drink. And tasty. Make sure you pour the beer out every now and then so it doesn't all come in the end. I recommend a starter to the drink. The drink was actually so huge it lasted for the entire dinner - we had nothing else. Do NOT start with the nacho plate - IT IS HUMONGOUS!!! Make sure you are at least four to share if not six. Or settle for just the nachos and no entree. We had fish taco and some mama burritos. Both black and refried beans are good. The mexi rice has a lot of flavour. The fish is whole and sitting on the three soft taco breads. It works. I rate this place as good as any of its neighbors if not even better. Service and food. They accept AMEX.

    (4)
  • Todd P.

My son had the beef taco, he gave it zero stars. My wife had the mama tacos, it gets two stars and says "it's not your tacos". I had the wet burrito I could barely see it, it was the same size as my sons taco. It was ok. $7 for guacamole and $2 for chips and salsa. We will not be coming back.

    (1)
  • Russ K.

If I could give Zero, that's where I'd land here. This establishment is near our Marco Island resort hotel, and we thought it'd be ok to let our very respectful/responsible teenage kids get lunch....unfortunately, this establishment saw an opportunity to rip off a couple kids. They tripled their food bill, added ridiculous amount of fictitious other items... End result: 2 kids = $65 for 2 burritos Stay away from this shady place!!!!

    (1)
  • Brian S.

This is why you should read the reviews first. Extra charge for sour cream to go with a burrito? Dressing for a taco salad? You can do better.

    (2)
  • Christine M.

Not good. The fish tacos were nasty and the portions are small. I would not eat here again.

    (1)
  • Kate H.

A 3 star menu with 5 star service. We got the dip appetizer; pico is good, black beans are good, guac is okay, chips alright... Cheese dip is reminiscent of the stuff you get when you order nachos at a movie theater or carnival. Maybe Florida hasn't been introduced to the wonder that is queso blanco? I'm not sure, but the dip needs some work. I got the scallop and shrimp fajitas which were pretty darn delicious. My boyfriend got the loaded burrito which was alright. Margaritas were light on the booze. Best part was the cheesecake we had for dessert.

    (4)
  • Irene F.

I have no idea why the other reviewers ragged on this place so bad! I'm from DC but for the price we paid the quantity and quality couldn't be beat! $110 got us an ice tea, 2 beers, a mojito, a margarita, and a Miami vice- nacho platter that made us beyond stuffed. A shrimp scallop quesadilla, 2 fish taco dinners, and chimichanga. We needed to be rolled out. Just look at the pictures and judge for yourselves!

    (5)
  • Lindsay H.

Delicious Mexican-American, great service! We ordered the tortilla chips with quest, I had the chicken tacos, my husband had enchilada. He got extra cheese- the entire plate was smothered in melted cheese which he loved! If you are looking for authentic Mexican, this isn't necessarily the place but the food is cooked to cater to the average American tastebud.

    (5)
  • Marianne C.

Okay....the food is good, my drink was better. However; it appears they are either short staffed or need more organization in the service department.

    (3)
  • Tammi L.

The food is decent, good atmosphere if you can get a seat outside. Try the frozen mango margarita. It is wonderful. I really like the Baja fish tacos here. Service can be very slow and not great- it's hit or miss. Not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but stick with the items mentioned above, and you'll be OK.

    (3)
  • Bob M.

Enjoyed the meal. Had the surf and turf burrito that was recommended and certainly proved to be worth trying. Would have enjoyed some more appropriate type music for the environment, such as Mexican style music to seal the deal and ambience. Would certainly go back next time in town. Thanks!

    (4)
  • Carrie G.

This is a great little place to get lunch and get out of the heat. The signature dish is their nacho plate. It has everything but the kitchen sink in it....cheese, jalapeños, ground beef, chicken, chili, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, guacamole, salsa and even corn. It's huge, and can easily be enough food for 5.

    (3)
  • Carie G.

We had a horrible waitress. First, when I had a question on the tacos regarding it being 'blackened' she said, "You don't know what blackened is?" in a really smart-ass way. Then, we ordered drinks- that would have been on the happy hour menu, but she didn't tell us- and when we asked her she said- "oh yeah, sorry, should have told you about that." Then, when confronted, she was a little apologetic- but instead of giving us an adjustment on our bill- she took our half empty drinks AWAY and gave us the happy hour drinks. Maybe Katlyn needs a day off. Aside from this- our food was good. Did I mention that we were there when it wasn't busy. Wish the service wasn't so terrible. I can't imagine what it would be like when its busy. That spoiled it for us. Bummer because the food was good. We won't be back.

    (2)
  • Reid P.

Wish I could give a zero star! The servers obviously did not care about being here. Came off very rude and nasty even before we walked in the front door. Do not come here unless you are looking for mediocre.

    (1)
  • Alex E.

Stay away of this place... Horrible horrible food. We got funny tasting plain guacamole... Probably from yesterday. The Tortilla chips were stale, the food was tasteless however the amount of salt and pepper u add to it... And for the first time ever in the history of tex-Mex restaurants the actually charge for chips and salsa. Chips and salsa is a staple in any tex-mex restaurant and this place actually charges you 2$ for it which is unheard off. The one and only positive thing about this experience was the nice waitress who took care of us.

    (2)
  • Michael P.

Pico de gallo. Lots of beers and margaritas during happy hour. The manager and waitress were cool. The manager actually came over and talked to us for a while. He seemed to really enjoy his job in the freedom that the owner gave him to kind of run the front of the house. It seemed like a nice place to hang out and if I live there I would go there more often.

    (4)
  • Genevieve L.

Marco Island is a small community and your dining options are limited when you don't have a car or tolerance for the humidity. We were staying at the Marco Beach Ocean resort and this place was walking distance from the hotel so we decided to try it. I ordered blackened tilapia tacos but instead of the fish being broken into bits and pieces, they serve the fish as a whole filet. they place 3 taco shells on on a platter, add some kind of tartar sauce with a white twist, lettuce, other veggies and place the filet on top. The fish is good by itself so instead of eating it like a when taco you can just eat the fish as a meal.

    (5)
  • Lisa S.

Great server, good food, loud due to the old timer softball team at the bar. Really enjoyed the pico-style salsa and chips. The Baja fish tacos came with a full fillet-delicious! Wish I would've had one of their tequila flights.

    (3)
  • Dan S.

Three stars is certainly the max. We ordered the guacamole to start and then shared chicken fajitas with soft corn tortillas for dinner. The chips and guacamole do not come with salsa so we were "nickle and dimed" another dollar for pico de gallo. If you love fresh guacamole mashed in house you will HATE this store bought (probably from Sam's or BJ's wholesale). It was flavorless and too smooth, like the stuff squeezed from a bag. Served with Tri color chips that were just ok. The fajitas were just ok as well. Everything served on plastic plates. Very cheap bar feeling. We sat outside which might be the reason for the third star.

    (3)
  • A P.

Mouth- Watering Tuna Stack! Fried Fish Tacos were perfectly fried, but the food prices were high. It seems as though they are taking advantage of all the snow birds and retirees. I would have much rather gone there to take advantage of drink specials during happy hour.

    (4)
  • Doug F.

The food was surprisingly good considering that the Margaritas were served in styrofoam cups- salt on a styrofoam cup edge is just plain odd. I had enchiladas which were quite tasty. Others in my group had burritos, tacos, salads, and fajitas that everyone enjoyed. The salsas were good too. It would be nice if they would start making their beans and rice so they were friendly for vegetarians- it's really not difficult - this and Real glassware for drinks could bring my review to a 5.

    (3)
  • Karen D.

Service good. Food just ok. Cheese dip was not melted. Menu was full of different options.

    (4)
  • Robert M.

Fair to partly cloudy. Bar trying to be a Mexican joint. No complimentary chips and salsa, but it didn't matter. The salsa was underwhelming. Just plain bland... Won't revisit.

    (2)
  • Ron G.

We have eaten here 3 x since it's an easy walk. Overall, the food is good. Typical Mexican food. Nothing to write mamma about, but we haven't had a bad meal. We will continue to eat here.

    (4)
  • Callie B.

Food was not worth the price. The rice tasted like it was from the box. Half of the food was cold by the time we got it. And the service was okay.

    (2)
  • Wendy S.

My kids were wishing for their Mama's Mexican food after eating at Nacho Mamas....this was the worst Mexican food we have ever had! Service was less than friendly. There is nothing for vegetarians- even the beans and rice are cooked in chicken broth.

    (1)
  • Wayne F.

I'd say maybe 3.5. We were surprised to see the 1 star reviews. Service was good on the night we were there and the burrito I ordered was loaded with steak and shrimp. I was quite happy with it and it was an affordable option.

    (3)
  • Megan S.

Margaritas are the best on the island!! My favorite is the 'Marco-rita' the for is very good. I usually get either the fish tacos or the California burrito (if I'm super hungry). Wish they gave chips and salsa with the meal instead of extra, but it's all fresh and very good! Also like coming here because the atmosphere is great! You can sit outside in the nice sunshine courtyard and relax. Great place!!

  • William R.

This place is probably ok to go to for some beers and nachos and to watch a game. The food here is very basic. Nothing to rave about. The nachos were good. I've had better. Most of the waitstaff was friendly and helpful............BUT Our server was one of the worst waitresses I've ever had. First, it took way too long to get our drinks. Then when she returned I told her the table was ready to order. She refused to take it. As she was walking away from us she said she'd "take it in a minute." While taking our order she told my wife that the black beans were vegetarian. When the food runner came out he explained to us, very politely and professionally, that the black beans were not cooked vegetarian. Let me say that this young man was the brightest moment of the dining experience. He got us more drinks, salsa, and fixed my mother-in-law's order. He was what you would expect in a waiter. Back to the waitress: She asked us if we wanted anything else at one point and walked away while we were trying to give drink orders. She also argued with my mother-in-law how she didn't mess up her order. "That is what you ordered" she told her! I personally took drinks off the table and took them up to the bar to make room on our table. She also never apologized about incorrectly telling us the black beans were vegetarian.

The worst experience. Food was delayed. The manager threatened to call the cops because we were going to leave after waiting over an hour and half. The owner has no business sense and the sob story was about how busy he was in the kitchen. The waitress was awesome....not her fault..gave the waitress $100 tip and still paid 75% of a jacked up bill.

  • Adriana L.

Best place for Mexican food. Service has always been amazing and would recommend this place to everyone that is visiting the island. Love everything. From the drinks to dessert and everything in between!

    (5)
  • Jean D.

Not very good. Ordered the nachos since that's in the restaurant's name figuring they would be good. Sadly disappointed. Very little cheese & beef. The weird colors of the chips indicated they weren't made at the restaurant. See picture.

  • Adam G.

Food was great. But the waitress was so rude on Dec 30. Was very lippy and didn't tell us any of the specials. When I asked about them after I saw them on a table tent she said. Well its posted everywhere. She then put on her sunglassesand walked away. Felt like discriminated against because we are tourist

Fried Cheesecake Chimichanga was amazing!! We got it twice!

  • Tara M.

Place is really cute, staff is really friendly and attentive. Friday night in September and the place is empty but they have a DJ which is pretty nice since most of the people in Marco Island are elderly so this is one place we found with a younger crowd. Now. . On to the food, large menu with all the typical items you'd expect. Started with guacamole which I thought was bland. Chips were fresh and multi-colored which was a nice touch. The Baha taco was great. Fish was cooked perfectly and the seasoning on the taco was perfect. Lastly, frozen Margarita was great. Perfect pour of tequila so it was not overwhelming. Also had the frozen watermelon Margarita which I would highly recommend.

    (3)
  • Randy R.

Margaritas were fantastic. Chicken fajitas were incredible. Perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Pico de gallo that came with chips was fresh and flavorful. I also had a hard taco as an appetizer and it was fresh and crispy. I really enjoyed this place.

Great mom and pop diner! Arrived there for breakfast on our last day in Marco Island. Attentive and fast service, especially given the size of the restaurant.

The best way I can describe Nacho Mama's is as a Mexican dive bar. The interior is decorated with tacky bar ornaments and decorations with a billiards table and Pac Man/Galaga machine in the rear. If you're looking for a nice night out this is NOT the place to go. If you're looking for cheap drinks and food they have a decent happy hour which could make for a no frills good time. The food is decent at best. The description for the Baja Fish Tacos had me sold but it sounded better than it tasted. It was served with a large whole filet over 3 tortillas with barely any toppings. The side of rice and beans were not fresh and very dry. If you're truly craving Mexican food on Marco Island I'm not sure of any other options but a quick search online might yield different results. If you do wind up here and the weather is permitting, definitely sit outside.

We won't be coming back. The food was terrible, and they don't give nachos unless you order them.

  • Juan M.

Decent. Nice atmosphere to take the family; we went with another group and had a good experience. This is not knock-your-socks-off in quality food, but it was a reasonably priced alternative on the island for something that wasn't going to have sand on the floor. Note: also conveniently located to our condo (near the Marriott).

Pretty good Mexican food. Staff is great and so is the music!!! :) had the carne asada Quesadillas yum!!! Open till 2 am which was awesome!

Great menu, good atmosphere, decent food. Service was good and entrees were well done. However, kinda weird for a good Mexican place to have bad guacamole. We asked if it was fresh, and were assured it was. But it wasn't. Tasted very store bought and almost synthetic. Otherwise, a fun night. Portions are big prices are ok. Not a lot of options on Marco island if your in the mood for Mexican.

My review is based on the atmosphere and bar, but not the food. Nacho Mommas is a fun place to drink. When on Marco Island there are few places that you can go past 10pm. Nacho mommas stays open until 1 or 2 am -bar time depends on the day of the week. They have a huge patio area which is shared by a couple other establishments, so you can almost always get a seat outside. We just ordered beers but the table next to us ordered mixed drinks which looked good, but i cannot comment on taste. They have a DJ on certain nights I assume its just the weekend nights. The DJ that was there when we went was fine, I mean, he just chose songs. No mixing or anything like that. If you come to Marco and are one of the few people interested in staying out past 10pm this area has a few places open "late" for drinks. Check out more of my reviews at: ShawnKemp.yelp.com

Pricey, average food and small portions. Nothing special about the atmosphere. Would not try again.

Food was nothing to write home about. I had a taco salad which was ok but for 12.99 you think it would have more flavor. they did have a good drink deal so that was the main reason for going. $7 pitcher. 1.25 drafts 3.50 small margaritas till 6pm. We sat outside and it was a perfect day not hot not cold perfect and the server was so nice and pleasent. Comedy club right next door.

Nice place , good food , value for money ... Waiting staaf is lil slow but its ok pool table covers for it .. :) nice margaritas... My personal favorite in snack hot chicken with blue cheese and celery, and chicken nachos they are bigggg so be careful when ordering.

Happy hour tacos, small but tasty. $1 beer small but a decent value. I have returned for the full menu, and it was disappointing. Recommendation, go for happy hour.

Went for the Happy hour! $3.50 margaritas, $1.25 tacos. Had a table of 10 and had good service and the food came out quick. We love our chicken wings and they were good - ordered hot and could've been hotter!

Ugh, do i even have to give them one star??? The only good thing about this place is the fact that it's in Marco Island and you can sit outside to enjoy the beautiful weather!! I don't even know where to begin... The waitress was RUDE from the minute she came to the table. I was willing to overlook her attitude... We ordered and she acted like we were wasting her time, which proved to be a problem b/c she screwed up the order and placed the order for a $13 dinner instead of the $6 meal that my daughter ordered. Then the single most epic fail of the meal... THE NACHOS... How do you mess up nachos that badly??!!! So incredibly awful that even my 7 year old wouldn't eat them. Then came the bill & I noticed the incorrect amount so the waitress proceeded to argue with me about what I ordered. By this time, I just needed to pay the bill & get the heck out of that place. Expensive & horrible! I SHOULD'VE READ THE REVIEW FIRST!!! Today's lesson... Always check Yelp FIRST!!!

Went during the day for happy hour. Pretty poor service and a terrible margarita. $1 tacos though...

KILLER MarcoRitas - $8.99 for a Medium and halfway through dinner I got greedy and ordered a second and when the first hit me I had to cry UNCLE and get a to go cup for the second (WHA? I hear you exclaim...Gina Calling Uncle on a drink...YUP, I did) After a day in the sun (and that is my my excuse for above shenanigans with the margarita) I wasn't starved hungry but I knew I had to eat something otherwise it would be a Nine Million Dollar middle of the night call for room service. So I figured, meh, I'll just go with the chicken tortilla soup because really at that stage of the day it was all about getting the kids fed. Nothing screamed at me from the menu because I was just feeling blah and really, I wasn't expecting anything good because there was no anticipation there. Ordered an order of veggie tacos for the eldest and a hot dog for the youngest. And being kids they were all happy with that. The tacos were the soft flour type and came with a side of refried beans and rice and he just LOVED slobbering all his stuff in there whatever way he liked. We also ordered an order of Jalapeno Poppers which were super crunchy on the outside but as I've never had them before wasn't 100% sure what should have been on the inside but it sure tasted like cheez whiz. My food arrives and the soup LOOKS great, with some tortilla strips over the top of it. But I'm still sceptical. Then I dip my spoon in and drip it back in the bowl...hmmmm....it drains off but sticks to the spoon in a very attractive way. The initial taste test ends up in me gobbling up the bowl like a bleedin savage. Speed freak with the spoon, that was me. It was YUM and apparently in my mind, as I was eating it, it was JUST what I wanted and needed. I just KNEW that no American had made this deliciousness and when questioned, Leanne discloses that one of the chefs is Mexican, and YES...he made the soup. Five stars for me. Leanne was our server, and she was a lovely young lady who was attentive and checked up on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Ask for her, she's saving for a trip to Ireland next year:) Didn't check out the back side of the restaurant but they have a pool table back there so it looks like a nice evening could be had chillin back there, grabbing a booth and shooting pool. My check for two killer Marcoritas, soup, 2 kids meals and a starter was about $50 before tax and tip.

We were seated quickly, excellent server, Jeffy, was very attentive. We ordered an Mommas Dips n requested no beans, he was able to substitute a different dip for us! From seafood quesadillas to wet burritos to chicken fajita tacos... Everything we ordered was delicious!! We will definitely go back again!

Terrible. Just plain terrible. Went there at 6:00 PM and I'm sitting here at 10:00 PM wanting to vom all over the place. And how can the word "Nacho" be in the name of the restaurant yet they don't give you chips and salsa unless you order and pay for them. If you want to eat in that plaza, go enjoy your food and avoid a tummy ache by going to Rookies!

I ate here three times when I visited Marco last March. I really wish they had more locations, specifically in New York! Awesome place in a great location for equally amazing food and drinks! I could tell that Nacho Mamma's was popular from the packed inside and outdoor seating. I've been dreaming about their signature marcoritas since I left. I killed a medium one during dinner (the cuervo REALLY sneaks up on you) and got a mango mojito to end the night. The margaritas are awesome either frozen or on the rocks. Chicken flautas are soooo tasty! I was really excited after I tried them for my first appetizer. Wet burritos &tamales are both wins. My last day in Marco I sat outside sipping a strawberry daiquiri enjoying a baja fish taco for lunch. The moment felt so beautiful :'(. I feel like crying/salivating right now.

I'll be honest. I haven't been here in years. We used to go as a family often, but we really only ever ordered the AMAZING tequila chicken wings. Oh yes. Delicioso, me gusta. But since I haven't been since I was 15, I can't say much else about the food or the place. It's got a cute little setup, though. It's cute. If you're in Marco Island to swim and see dolphins, check out Nacho Mama's if just for the tequila wings. UPDATE: I got to go back to Nacho Mama's this year (2015), and boy was I surprised! It has expanded beyond its small little dive setting, and is a much bigger restaurant. The tequila wings got an update, but they are still hella good. We had the jalapeno poppers as well, and they were very good, though I think cream cheese would have served them better than cheddar. I'm happy I go to go back regardless. Get those wings and a drink or two! They have happy hour, but its short and is a very limited menu.

My husband and I decided to go to a movie and wanted to eat close to the theater since we only had about an hour before the movie started. I am only going to talk about our server JEFF SPILLING MY SODA and never even apologizing. I mean a lap full of soda &ice. I have been a server and I know things like that happen and it was not done on purpose. The thing that I found insulting was when we got our bill our 2 sodas and our chips and salsa ($1.99 with a meal) was removed. Now, I say insulting because our waiter JEFF never once apologized nor the manager, whose name I didn't get, never came over to apologize or to see if he could do anything. He even saw me get up with my skirt soaked with soda to go to the bathroom. When I approached him as we were leaving to tell him that i found it very insulting that he never once came to our table after the spill to see if we needed anything or to just apologize his response was "I'm sorry you feel like that but we did take off your beverages (2sodas) and your appetizer (chips and salsa but they left the order of guacamole on).". I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A RESTAURANT THAT HAS MADE ME FEEL THE CUSTOMER WAS NOT IMPORTANT UNTIL I ATE HERE. IT WAS INSULTING. Eric Philips you need to get a good training company into your establishment to teach your staff how to deal with people, as far as I'm concerned I'd tell everyone to go to MARGARITAS for authentic Mexican food on Marco, and you don't have to buy your chips and salsa there.

The happy hour is awesome, cheap food and good margaritas. It is not authentic Mexican so if you are looking for real Mexican food, this is not. This is more tex-mex, basic type of tortilla and meat with salsa. Great times and great atmosphere, they have great drinks and staff.

Dance club feel at night....Place was empty, most poeple were next door at other bar. Hot DJ, she played the same song like 3 times in a row though. Cheap drinks, average margarits.

I really enjoy Nacho Mama's, my family & I have been going there for years! It's American Mexican, not Authentic. Best time to go is happy hour with $1 tacos, good wings & beer w/great prices, $3 margaritas, etc. The staff has always been great to my family and I.

We were in town the weekend of Father's Day and ventured across the street to this strip mall set up. We stopped in during happy hour and got a great meal all for under $15. They had 3 tacos for $1 along with rice and beans and magaritas for $3. We cleaned up, luved the place. I know we will be stopping here when we go back.

This is a review the owner needs to read. Great food but.....dirty restaurant, slow service.....AND you have to pay for your salsa and chips.

Seared ahi tuna tacos are Wonderful! My wife had them and loved them - and I sampled and also enjoyed. We caught the end of Happy Hour and stayed for dinner. The made-daily fresh pico de gallo was good, but the oregano seasoning took some getting used to...

How does this place stay in business? Food tasted like it came frozen in a package and microwaved. Our waitress was slow, rude, and couldn't remember a thing. It was loud so we couldn't talk across the table. As for portions, you get a small amount of real food with a large glop of beans and almost warm rice. Taco bell is better than this place.

    (1)
  • Liudmila R.

The worst $50 I've ever spent on going out: for 2 Margaritas, neither of which were good enough to be called mediocre, hot wings which were rubbery and tasted like straight up vinegar, and the scallop and shrimp enchiladas which were clearly "cooked" in the microwave after being bought frozen. I would have complained, except I felt to bad for the waitress who was really nice and probably totally miserable because she had to work there and probably listen to complaints about the shitty food all day long. There is nothing authentic about the food and the margaritas are not the best in southern florida for sure! Total ripoff!

  • Steven N.

This place pretty good. We started out the the nacho platter and that was good. I got the baja fish taco the waitress recommend it to me so I got and it was really good. it was a whole foot long fish with rice and soft tacos. It exceeded my expectation. We went on a Tuesday night at 9 so no one was there but service was pretty quick and good. Overall I think its a place to stop by if you are craving some Mexican food.

I should have known from the name. Queso tasted like plastic (and it came out in about 30 seconds so it was obv nuked). My son got a hamburger that was a hockey puck and the bread felt like it was a week old. Chicken in enchilada and taco was dry. Only think was ok were drinks. Gross.

    (1)
  • R M.

Edible "Mexican" food, overpriced drinks. The veggie tacos are pretty meager. Very loud, almost impossible to have a conversation. Menu is sort of interesting, but that hardly makes up for the mediocre food.

  • Jim R.

Nacho mamas has a great atmosphere and great food! We did not like the fact you have to pay for your chips and salsa... Which definitely brought the star level down. :( prices were appropriate, and food was OK. Also, another poor quality is the bathrooms are dirty. Every-time I come hear it seems like the bathrooms haven't been clean but other than that is is OK.

I think they used processed cheese for the nachos! Really bad. Run. Run. Run away!

Love this place, best happy hour on the island! Services are to notch! Great Margaritas, and always a good time whether that be at 3 in the afternoon or hanging out with the crowd till last call on the patio.

My family loves Nacho Mama's. The margaritas are awesome! I like getting the blackened fish tacos. It's a huge portion of three tortillas and a whole fish. My kids get tacos and the chicken soup. Their portions are a great size. Late night without the kids is always fun too. It's the only place that serves a nice stiff drink and plays some good rock and roll.

Service was quick, the food was hot and tasty. It's Marco Island, so prices are high, but not higher than other places that are nowhere as good!

I went during an off time, all of the local places weren't too busy (bad weather, mid week, new moon, etc). I got quick and cheery service along with a great margarita and $2 chips and pico. Now before everyone complaints about the typical "authentic" Mexican place charging for pico- this was fresh cut stuff, not the mass produced canned fare at most Mexican restaurants I have been too. I ordered the special grouper which was great- lots of cilantro, cheese, and butter, its impossible to wrong with all of that on the plate! The silver margarita was right on target. The rest of the menu looked typical for the genre and the mostly got things right. There are better options around this area, but they do what they do. If I had gone with a huge group, perhaps my review would be a bit different.

This place is great. I am from northern Virginia and am on vacation. This restaurant is so quant and cute, but also has great food. Their chips were great, baked and not fried. The service was average. And the fish tacos were by far my favorite. Reasonably priced and great outdoor seating. It's Easter and I'm eating Mexican food outside on a gorgeous terrace with great weather. This place rocks!!!! And my parents say the drinks rock!!!

Nacho Mama's rocks. OK, this place is across of the Hilton and a walk from the Mariott. It's the best Mexican on the Island - hands down. The food is good and very, very consistent. The owner is a FREAK with quality control and you can find him checking orders before they go out on busy nights. It's like a scene from Gordan Ramsey's TV show. This owner is Gordon Ramsey and really cares about delivering a good meal. Anyway, as many have commented, I've also been going from the days it was a bar with a blue tarp over some 2X8's. The food was good then and better now. Many people comment on the chips and salsa and how they charge for these. Honestly, get over it. The chips are fresh and made everyday. The salsa is fresh and made in house each day- no doubt. You can tell this is not from a jug. This stuff is fresh and made in the AM everyday. For that, I'll pay a few bucks. The place went through an extream make-over and the bars is fun and relaxing when they have music (think Acustic Guitar). The outdoor seating and booths inside are all good and fun to enjoy the tasty mexican food with frozen concoction. Go and have some fun and good food!

Terrible service. Waited atleast 10 mins after we sat down for a waitress. Also, asked the bus boy to change channel and he said he couldn't do it.? Okay. Not the best place for service but decent food.

We've been going to Nacho Mama's since it was a little hole in the wall place before the whole strip model was remodeled and upgraded. This is good solid Mexican food. The nacho's themselves are HUGE and very good. You generally can't go wrong with the burritos, tacos, enchiladas, etc. I thought the margaritas were just so-so and expensive for what you got. They can also get pretty crowded on a Friday or Saturday night, but we have always had good service and the food came fast. Overall, if you are looking for Mexican food on Marco Island, this is a pretty good option.

  • Claudine S.

Pretty good restaurant, I had a steak with Mexican rice. It was flavorful but not the best cut of meat. Considering the difficulty I have had finding an open restaurant in Marco I would definitely come back as my go to restaurant since it seems reliable. Service wasn't stellar but adequate.

Sometime in the afternoon, I believe it's 3 p.m., Nacho Mama's has a "Happy Hour" and it is ridiculously cheap and satisfyingly delicious after a nice hot morning on the beach. During this time you can get up to 10 $1 tacos (ground beef ones are the best), $1 drafts (not all beers, but still the selection was good enough for me), $3 margaritas and many more specials. Plus, they have a second similar happy hour after 10 p.m. If you're in the area, like Mexican and need a mid-day or late-night snack & beer, there's nothing more affordable & yummy by the beaches of the island.

  • aidan m.

1 star because they have dollar bud drafts and dollar pork tacos during happy hour. so anything over a dollar will probably make you hurl. other than that, your company will consist of muggy, strung-out bartenders and a bunch of whining, minging elderly dickheads on a time share. crappy at best. salty processed food. i live in the land of taquerias and the shittiest one is better than this. you'd do better buying a can of black beans and making one of the recipes on the back label.

  • Amy W.

I am giving this restaurant three stars for the happy hour. Would not recommend for a dinner sit down. The happy hour is great with 1$ tacos that come packed with all the trimmings (lettuce, cheese, tomatoes) not just meat and cheese as in thought for the price, the margaritas are good too!

  • Austin R.

This was the worst mexican food i've ever had. The guacamole tasted like it came out of one of those powdered packets you get in the supermarket. One of my favorite things at mexican restaurants are the combos, where you can combine tacos, enchiladas etc. Here, they have taco dishes (3 of each), enchiladas (3 of each), or a combo with 1 of each which is more expensive than either of the individual dishes combined. It makes absolutely no sense. So I ordered the tacos alone--the meat did not taste good, and I got a tiny scoop of rice that could fit on the end of a toothbrush. My wife tried to order fish tacos, but instead got three tortillas with a giant slab of fish laid across them--she had no idea how to approach her meal, and ended up leaving half of it behind. The fish also tasted gross. Finally, I've never seen a mexican restaurant which didn't have salsa and doesn't serve sour cream as a side to the meals. I love Marco Island, but I share no such feelings for Nacho Mama's. The one star I give comes from the giant cups of sodas, although they still cost almost $3 each.

I have one word for this restaurant: BLAND. There are a few Mexican restaurants on the island, and this was the closest to our resort, so we were able to walk. I would have driven to find some sort of seasoning on my dinner. The margaritas were good (and of course, overpriced), and their homemade salsa (which was closer to a pico de gallo) was delicious. However, the chicken tacos I got tasted like they came from Taco Bell, the rice was plain and nothing had very much taste. The service was good, however our waitress seemed to over-anticipate our needs (for example, I asked about the amount of cheese on the enchiladas, and when I went with the tacos, they came without cheese at all [ie I would have liked a little, and definitely didn't ask for none at all]). I know that this is a bit nitpicky, but for the amount of money required to feed a family of three, you want everything to be to your liking. I will say, however, that in past visits I have participated in their $1 taco and half-off margarita happy hour, which is just about all I would pay for the food. I didn't see any advertisements for their happy hour this visit, thought, so I don't know if they still have it. I will definitely be on the lookout for good Mexican on Marco Island, because I didn't find it here, sorry.

Below average at best. High priced .., clearly not looking for repeat business.

    (1)
  • Albert H.

Marco restaurants are all overpriced, and this is no exception - but the food is rather ordinary, even the nachos. Drink prices are insane but they didn't skimp on the alcohol. Nice outdoor seating that isn't too bad in the winter for a quick lunch.

  • B M.

Horrible. Seriously horrible. I have never had worse Mexican food. Our party of 9 each hated their meal. The Mojitos were pretty good.

  • Susan M.

Liked it better when it was smaller and under the outdoor tented area. Bartender was a lively lady who is not there anymore. Chimichangas have gotten much smaller and should be served with guacamole. My husband's shrimp and scallops tacos were good.

    (3)
  • Jeff G.

Very mediocre food, not done with any care . In other words tourist trap. There is better Mexican food on the Island.

    (2)
  • Gene K.

The decor, service, cleanliness, and menu are expectedly cheesy. The food, surprisingly, is not. My family had a reasonably priced meal for 4 that actually tasted good, all the ingredients were fresh, and we came away satisfied. This is not a bad choice for a casual meal, just keep your expectations low, and you may be pleasantly surprised.

    (3)
  • Jordan C.

Great happy hour prices but that's about it. You know it's bad when their nachos come with cheese sauce on the side instead of baked on the chips. I ate there a few days ago and am still grossed out thinking about that meal. The margaritas are okay but clearly made from a mix...little gross too.

    (2)
  • Mike D.

This is a place to hang out and drink with friends. I think the food is good, mainly get bar food/apps. Drinks are of course good. Prices are to be expected when across from the beach and major hotels. Awesome outside area and live music, pool table too.

    (4)
  • Joel W.

Terrible in all areas. Tortilla chips were not free, and served with nacho cheese straight from the ballpark. A wide selection of Margaritas, but the 3 I drank all tasted the same. Guacamole from a can (is there such a thing). Bartenders were terribly rude.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
